I've been running Ubuntu on this laptop since January - Dapper, Edgy, and now Feisty. I installed Ubuntu Studio a few weeks ago with Synaptic. This morning I'm finally getting around to setting it all up - specifically Jack. I'm having no luck. Can't connect.

Has anyone else been able to get Jack, and the rest of the Ubuntu Studio apps, to work correctly on an Inspiron 1300?

Thanks.

Pray tell, what is Jack?

It's an essential part of the Ubuntu Studio. I don't completely understand the MIDI world yet. Ubuntu Studio is a suite of applications for making audio/video. Lots of great stuff come with it. But it must be configured, and essential is to configure Jack. The instructions are sketchy, and I'm hoping someone else has already invented this wheel.
