The real beginner

Hello, it's been a real pleasure to be running this OS. Been working and enjoying computers for a year now, As a beginner and really mean this I have found all the help I needed by the forums, Started off with MS and using a dual boot configuration XP and Feisty. I used Wubi with Feisty Alternate to pull this off. I think it went too well, to easy. This I am writing for the beginners like me, research, read the failures the problems, and then the solutions. Is there like a road map to certain site's with certain problems or how to's besides the forum?

For some help with problems, there's always http://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu where quite a few people help out with common questions and look to offer solutions to problems.

Thanks they seem all to great sites and will have some reading to do. Us beginners would save ourselves a lot of grief and disappointment if we would prepare our self's more. But then again it's not always our fault. Thanks again.

The only way to prepare is to be willing to read and learn. Ask for help if you get hung up on any particular topic.

Thank you for the welcome. Like stated a few weeks past, I started using Ubuntu with the help of Wubi, and with what I have read, I have installed a dual boot configuration with a live CD. I have not regretted one bit and even took it a step farther and installed Ubuntustudio. I had a few issues or mistakes, but were resolved by using the forums. Thanks to everyone who has helped me, I hope this is the correct place to do this.

Just started to use linux. So far so good. Is there a good book, or magazine out there that would help a newbie take the plunge. I dual boot right now. The terminal is a bit confusing. This is a great site with a wealth of information. I'll continue to read the posts. Thanks, Dan

I just joined this forum days ago and I just find out about this "Beginner Team" forum. After I've joined Ubuntu forum I've downloaded and burnt the Live CD and have installed Ubuntu 7.04 on my laptop after experienced some troubles. But the hassle worth my time though I've spend hours of time on figuring out how to install it properly and get it running. I dual boot my laptop with Windows XP and Ubuntu.

I kinda love Ubuntu more compare to Windows OS, but I'm considered a complete newbie to Linux OS, and I think there are a lot more commands for me to learn in order to use Ubuntu with the best experience ever.

I have downloaded and installed Java runtime environment, however, I think I somehow screw it up and get it installed on Desktop accidentally. But that's ok, now I have problem configuring it to work with Firefox. I'm still exploring and trying to do all this on my own now. It's always a lot of fun when trying out stuff on your own.

By doing it myself, I learn more and I'm more confident to use Linux/Ubuntu in the future =)

This community is amazing.

I too am a new linux user but I truely believe in the long run it will be worth seperating ourselves from Windows which enables us the access to so many free applications, software, and best of all support.
