I'm sure glad to see an Oklahoma Ubuntu forum! This is great!

Just to introduce myself, I'm in Salina, Oklahoma and have participated in the Tulsa LUG for several years. We've done several things to help people get started with Linux such as Installfests, seminars on Linux for the Tulsa Computer Society, and have had a booth several times at the monthly Tulsa computer show and handed out Linux CDs, etc. We have meetings on the last Saturday of each month at 11:00am at the Hardesty Regional Library in Tulsa.

Myself, I've been totally Microsoft free since about 1997 and am all about freedom. I've been a big Slackware fan for many years but have several computers running Ubuntu and Kubuntu and Kubuntu has become my favorite distro.

So. I'm extremely enthusiastic about getting Linux promoted and used!

Welcome to the group, I think we are trying to set up Skype meetings and I know we are trying to set up local meetings, and I hope in the future we could all get together a couple times a year, although I don't think this has been proposed yet.

Just to be a prude (somewhat, anyway), shouldn't we go with OpenWengo to set up voice meetings? After all, we're suppose to be dealing with open source matters. ;)

I tried openwengo, it crashed on startup 1/2 the time and the times I can get it to work it sees my webcam, but one the test call the cam doesn't work, I have also tried ekiga and the sound is real choppy. Grant it I have spent nearly no time trying to fix these.

Hello from Wewoka. I'm a newb to Ubuntu and Linux. My laptop crashed so I took the disaster of losing ALL my Windows documents, email, address, websites etc. and decided this would be an ideal time to finally make the switch. I tried dual booting 6.06 but never really got into it before giving up.

If anyone can offer help and advice I would be grateful.

I don't remember exactly where Wewoka is but I'm pretty sure that I've been there before.

As far as dual booting I am using a Dell XPS M1330 Laptop dual booting. Vista and Ubuntu 7.10 on a 250Gb HD. I the Gparted Live CD and and made a 25gb NTFS for win and a 5gb swap and a 30gb ext2 and then whatever was left into a Fat32 for Data music photos etc.

Load windows first then Ubuntu and go to manual config when it gets to the part about partitions. It's working pretty well for me. Of course I don't boot into windows very often so it's working well.

OK NEW Problem!!! I have a Desktop Machine that I just screwed up. Cause I was stupid. Now I need to figure out how to edit the GRUB when booted from a live CD.

I have an 80GB & a 120GB HD In my machine, I have 7.10 Loaded on the 120GB HD and Windows on the 80GB HD. Here's my partition scheme before I screwed it up.

80GB HD (25GB Windows; 25GB Ubuntu; 25GB Open for other Distros; rest is swap)

120GB HD (All is Ubuntu )

Then I changed it to this with a G-Parted Live CD

80GB HD (40GB windows [resize]; 40GB Blank)

120GB HD (SAME)

Now (obivously) when I try to boot I get GRUB Error22. I know why, but I didn't think about it until after I tried to boot the machine up again (Stupid). I just need to edit the GRUB to show my "New" Windows partition (even thought It has just changed)

If anyone can help or knows someone who can help, that'd be great. :confused:

Hey...know how you feel, Ive done stuff like that before...the grub menu is located at:

/boot/grub/menu.lst

You will need to mount your drive that hosts ubuntu and locate it.

Hello from Owasso! I've been playing with the Hardy beta on a Dell D600 laptop as of late. I started using linux around 1998 with Mandrake, moved on to Debian, then RH/Fedora, and now Debian and Ubuntu.

The Tulsa area Linux users met today, and some discussion of Ubuntu was made. :)

The next meeting will be Saturday June 28 at the Hardesty Regional library. See http://tulsalug.org/ for (a little) more information.

All Ubunteros are welcome to the meeting, but should be aware that the group includes users of other *gasp* Linux distributions.
