there will definately be a launch event. just no venue or time has been decided upon. as said, i will try let everyone know by the end of today, if not by the end of today, then by the end of the weekend. :popcorn:
okay, well, i couldnt finid a decent venue yet for the joburg release party. any suggestions? :confused:

when would the get together be the 18th of Oct same day as the release ?
And as for suggestions, why dont we see who would like to go, and then from there find a centeral point based on the locations of the attendies ?
well, the release is on the 18th, so i think we should have the meet on either the 19th or 20th (fri or sat).
as for waiting to see who is going to show, before organising, unfotrunetly time is not on our side. i fear that if we just sit and wait for people to confirm they coming before we even have plans for the meeting, i fear that we will miss another launch.
cos also, not many people will say if or not they will come when they dont know where it is. also, its harder to advertise a meet when there is no specific date/time already set. so yah, i think lets focus on the when and where, as soon as possible, so that we can actually start inviting people to the meet. as for the when and where, i have yet to find a decent spot.
C-Killer what type of spot do you have in mind and then we could make suggestions.
i was thinking of 3 possibilities.....
- Well, since summer is here, I thought it would be nice to find a place outdoorsy, with braai facilities and a power outlet (so we can copy discs on laptops). This is probably the least feasible of options.
- Next, would be a sort of pub/restaurant type place, that would enable us to book quite a large booking. Again, we will need access to a power outlet.
- Last, but not least, I was thinking of maybe trying to find a place (like a mall or something), that we could try get permission to set up a stand and hand out free copies to people.
Those are just 3 options I have come up with. But feel free to make your own suggestions. This is not MY meeting, I am simply just trying to get the ball rolling, but the ball wont roll without your help.

_Date:_ I would suggest Saturday 19th, taking to heart that nobody really feels like rushing some where right after work on a Friday,

I do know it is hard to tell these things, but what was the turn out of the last meet ?
as far as i know, absolutely terrible.
to be honest, i wouldnt expect more than 10 people to show up. but i think if we can start off this one with even just 5 people, then few more the next one, few more the next one, we will eventually start gathering momentum.
Guys something rang a bell in my head and I went and checked - 20th is Rugby World Cup FINAL.
So there would be a prob with 6.00 pm would there not?
Thats is why i never went into event co ordinating.....Any objections for the 21st October ?
yeah, i think cos of the rugby, any time on that saturday would be a no no. i think ice-rage is right, i think we should probably do something on the sunday (21st).

Place: If there are not going to be to many people, then best would be a Keg or something to that nature, with an outside area and then for the laptops we can just hi-jack one of there sockets using an extension cable and a multi plug. ?????????
Also i will be bringing a few copies.

My other idea for a venue was .......drum roll please....
A place call ZAP at Randburg Water Front ( Bright Water what ever )
From what I know of it they host lan games and sell computer hardware, I have sent them a mail to see if they were intrested, no response yet, would something like that be a suitable venue ?
Not to steal your thunder, but I was thinking of suggesting Brightwater - the Keg though, but because of Zaps. I was going to chat to Wayne (owner of Zaps) to see if needed we could use one of his PC's to burn discs if required. If you want to use Brightwater I can talk to Wayne.

i wouldnt worry about a pc for burning cds, i'll be bringing my laptop with for that very purpose.

It was just a thought so we did not have to worry about a power point and extension cords.
no problem, it is best to rather think of the stuff now, than not have it later.

Taking into consideration that the numbers are growing for the meet, are there any plans for someone to book, cause the last thing we want is to get there and there and there is no space ?
i was thinking about booking, but was worried that i end up booking and no one shows. dont wanna end up with 2 people sitting at a 20-seater :P
what i was thinking is that we could all just meet there, and once everyone has arrived, if it is over-full (which i doubt), we could just head to somewhere else. but i dont think we should have problems with space, most of south africa will be partied out after saturday night.
anyways, i dont have a problem with someone booking, i just honestly dont have the time and dont see it as being all that necessary. as i said, if its too full at the keg, we can always go to one of the other 50 places there. but yah, feel free to make a booking if you disagree with me. could be a good idea.
also true, so then lets all meet at the keg and take it from there, and if we win i think people will still be at it at 3 when we get there lol.
Did anyone even go yesterday for the meet cause the only thing i got to meet were the bottom of a few beers ? and will someone please tell me where the "KEG" is at Randburg Water front.........:-k
