to be honest, i dont know what to suggest.

the thing is with every c-media soundcard i've used in ubuntu, they've been autodetected and work without the need to install drivers.

what i would perhaps do is, start up the live cd you used to install ubuntu, and when the cd starts the sound should function normally. if it is, then it would just seem that you need to re-configure installation. but i dont know how to do this. if you have nothing to lose on your current installation, you could always do freshy (if the sound works on the livecd).

also, you say you just added this soundcard, so how many soundcard are in your machine, 1 or 2?

it could just be a matter of going to "System -> Prefernces -> Sound" and making sure the correct device is selected. in fact, try that first. if that doesnt work, then try the livecd. let me know how it goes.

Glad to hear it.. sorry we could not be of more help .. and trying it in another slot should have been my first suggestion... it is always the obvious that creates the biggest problems.

Well at least you have your sound working now.\\:D/
