Xchat is a good IRC Client, but I use Chatzilla which is a Firefox extension.....

Wow, no wonder it's so hard for Linux users to get together. IRC? Mailing lists? Driving to another city? Are we really that few and far between?
I just found this forum today, and I'd love to get together with other Ubuntu users in my area, but most of us are hours apart. I don't use chat/IM/etc. because I generally find it a distraction at best. Don't even get me started on mailing lists. Let's just say that I get enough email already.
So I guess I'm posting this in case anyone in the Clarksville/Ft. Campbell/Oak Grove area is interested in meeting up.

I hate to seem rude, but almost all Ubuntu business is done via IRC chat. And getting together in person is tough in any state, but if people want to do it, they just do.
We have discussed getting together on a regional basis, and if you want to gather Ubuntu users in Clarksville/Hopkinsville then great, but I've been to Clarksville dozens of times from Nashville and it's a one hour drive.
If you don't want to participate, then don't participate. If you get on and complain that participating means IM, chatting, driving around, then why even get on?
At the very least, I am looking to make a few friends.

Yes you did come off as rude, but I won't hold it against you.
I contribute where I can, usually on the forums, and usually don't concern myself with most of the rest of it. Although lately, I've become interested in contributing in more ways.

City-based meetings would be ideal, but it seems we don't have enough users in most cities to bother with a meeting. Which is the reason driving into Nashville is being discussed.
I was figuring that Hoptown should probably be included by the KY team, as they *are* in Kentucky. I include Oak Grove & Ft. Campbell by default because they both sit astride the state line and are far closer and more connected to Clarksville than they are to anything in KY.

During the course of my time as an EMT, I've driven to Nashville & back *countless* times, many times under extreme pressure, in traffic, in nasty weather, and/or at Warp 9. Let's just say that I've made that trip enough to take the fun out of the drive, assuming driving to Nashville can even be considered fun. I'm not interested in driving to Nashville on a weeknight, and likely couldn't even if I wanted to. I'm sure I'm not alone on that last count. I would probably be interested in a relaxed weekend meeting, however.

Why "get on"? I've been on the forums for some time, usually trying to help someone get something fixed or running properly. I do it to give something back to the community that freed me from OS bondage. Just because I don't necessarily want to participate *the way you do* doesn't mean I don't want to participate at all. :)
As to why I'm here, I thought I'd check it out since Ubuntu's been pimping the LoCo teams like nobody's business. I thought this might be a worthwhile venture.
