Beginners wiki is a very good idea.

Ive been trying to run livecd ver 6.06 LTS .From that experience ,it would be good if wiki covers the topic of getting configuration settings for internet ,printers etc on to a usb flash drive as a first step before going in to installation straight away.As lot of new users would want to try the live cd.

Thanks for the link given. So old a version-- I am currently reading Moving to Ubuntu Linux,Ubuntu for non geeks which came with software on the cover and after going through the forum I noticed that even in later versions ie upto 7.04 this has not been addressed.So I got a copy of Running Linux and trying to sort this out;from the local library some additional books mostly distribution specific ones All these go straight to installation.Most books are good on post-installation things. This is a pre-installation step.That is why I thought that it would be a good beginners wiki topic.Pardon me for being bookish ,but one must have at least some basic knowledge to ask a proper question.

I was wondering what a 'sticky thread' is, but I am certain no one's going to look through 396 messages in a thread.

A wiki seems like a good idea to me, but from what I see here, no one has taken the reins.

A sticky thread is one that is at the top permanantly.

And as has been posted by Seisen the Ubuntu wiki.

There are two issues :

  1. After a wiki or stick is written, how to get users to read it ? See #2.
  1. More important, we are a community. By that I mean the forums are an active process and IMO the best approach is to participate. If you have a question, ask.
