Howdy folks!
I've been using windows since it was born basically, and I used to be pretty damn handy with Dos, Basica, Pascal and the like, but I retain only a mild understanding of operations, and don't remember jack about a command prompt.
I've been using OpenSource software for a few years now, and I've been trying to follow the current trends with software, and OSs, and I feel that OpenSource will take to mainstream soon. Also, I have that general animosity towards large corporations with retarded amounts of money/info/power (read: M$). As a result, I would like to get more into this whole thing.
I tried for several days to install Feisty Fawn from a LiveCD, or Usb, or boot disk, etc. I phailed. My stoopid Gateway Laptop didn't want to boot from anything but the HD, and I couldn't figure it out; Bios was right... anyway, on with it:
Sorry for the long post, I'm a noob to these forums, and I guess this is an intro. Just a bit more...
I found wubi installer!!! It's freakin sweet! Installed from within windows, sectioned off a piece of the HD for Ubunto for me, let me pick my install size (i went with 6 gigs, if this goes well, I'll kill off some windows apps, defrag, and reinstall with more space) blah, blah, now I have a dual boot Vista(wish it was xp)/ubunto feisty fawn. I figured out how to install the Xre whatever Gui.. the one that's supposed to be fast - incase it matters, and it loads with blue screen, but after login looks just like before I installed the other thing, so I don't know if it worked right.
Sorry, i'm excited, and this is sweet...I can't find any wireless networks, and I am connected with Ethernet until I do (it doesn't scan for some reason) I would really like to fix this problem, but honestly, I'm too newbified. When following instructions, I get lost trying to do simple things. I don't remember how to use a command prompt very well anymore:
ex: trying to use wifi-radar:
downloaded no problem, spent hours trying to figure out how to install finally figured out that cd changes directory finally got into the right folder to run install, and did now can't get back to home directory basically: I don't know crap-----where's the sooper noob station with all the "type "" idiot!"? is there a simple page for very very simple funcitons, and could I have some help with my wireless?
also, if this is an inappropriate place/way to post, please inform me.
thanx!! I wanna be expresso!
