Is it Evolution the equivalent to Outlook?

Hi. I just installed Ubuntu 7.04 and I'm trying to get familiar with it. My first question, even tough it seems obvious is: Evolution is the equivalent to Outlook in Windows XP? I have problems to configurate it. When I was installing Ubuntu, it asked me about my provider or server, I put POP, and then RCN.com, which is my Internet provider. I can't either send or receive E-mails, I got a message that it says: "Error while Fetching Mail. Could not connect to rcn.com:No route to host"

Can anyone help me out with this issue?

Evolution is somewhat similar to Outlook, though it isn't quite as complex and feature-rich. It works very well for me, though, and I use it for both private and business mail. As for your mail problem, the mail host is usually something like mail.domain.com or pop.mail.domain com. If you only put RCN.com, this won't work. Try pop.rcn.com or mail.rcn.com, though your provider should be able to supply the detailed information you need.

My father's bugged out a bit on this issue as well. I ended up installing Thunderbird on all of my computers (His for the issue and mine just because I like it). It has more features and runs quite well. Maybe you could try that.

You need to add the port number after pop.something.com so it looks like this ``` pop.something.com:25

The port is only required if it's a non-standard port (either insecure or secure).

sometimes, your eMail-provider gives you information how to configure your mail-client. look on the website of your provider!

I used Evolution for a while and while it was ok, I just never really felt 100% comfortable with it. I saw a post on Thunderbird and after I tried it, I found that I prefer it to Evolution.

I like Thunderbird as well. With a couple plug-ins and a little configuration I can still get in my 10+ year old hotmail accounts.
