well did some upgrades today by force to see if anything would break. And nothing major did break. But for some reason Virtualbox won't start. Trying to run it from terminal tells me I don't even have it installed lol!!!!

those updates you "forced" probably UNinstalled something vital , look and consider exactly WHAT it is going to do before dist-upgrading .
it updated the lobxerces and the other file dependency ubuntu automatically installs when virtualbox is installed my guess those 2 being upgrade is the culprit. Don't bug me much.
Also the newest build of the x264 codec works flawlessly for the first time ever for me. No more crashes in avidemux.

I bet you because of the new kernel. Just execute /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup and then reboot.
