I would like to run Debian, because I am looking for something that is more similar to Arch Linux, but not as minimal. I have tested Debian on my Intel machine and have been very impressed with it. However, when I installed it on my AMD machine (my main comp) it gave me a 486 kernel. I looked in synaptic for an 686 one, but the description said that they were only for Intel based chip sets. Must I compile my own kernel to run i686 with Debian on AMD or is it possible to just use the stock kernels available in Synaptic? Or, is there another option?
